Survivor Tocantins is the 18th installment in the U.S. reality show Survivor.S:Tc was filmed in Tocantins, Brazil in the microregion of Jalapão. It premiered on February 12, 2009. Once production of Survivor: Gabon was underway, CBS began casting for this season. Shooting occurred between October and December of 2008.
Sixteen applicants were selected to compete on the show, and started off divided into two tribes. A new twist lay on Exile Island, one person from each tribe would be sent. On Exile, each contestant would choose one of two urns. One contained a clue to the Hidden Immunity Idol and an option to join the opposing tribe, while the other contained nothing.
James "J.T." Thomas, Jr. was named the Sole Survivor on May 17, 2009. He garnered all seven jury votes in a unanimous decision, beating out Stephen Fishbach. In addition, J.T. was named "Sprint's Player of the Season", earning the fans' vote over Tamara "Taj" Johnson-George and Sierra Reed.
