Administrators ("admins" for short, or sysops) are trusted users of the Survivor Wiki, who have been granted exclusive access to special tools that could help in maintaining the Wiki. They are a small team of editors who are considered to be some of the most trustworthy and responsible users known in the community.

Users who have queries about the wiki often approach Administrators. Admins provide good pieces of advice and can tremendously help in reaching a consensus during discussions. But despite their additional capabilities, admins are not serving as leaders who govern the wiki under an iron fist, as content and policies are to be agreed by the whole community. There will be a maximum of ten administrators.

Admins are granted with additional abilities. But these powers may only be exercised if a consensus has been reached:

  • Ability to delete pages, files and page histories
  • Renaming files and articles
  • "Protect" articles from being edited nor renamed
  • Block users and IP addresses from editing
  • Reverting an article to a previous edit
  • Edit the MediaWiki namespace to make changes to the interface and design.

Current Administrators

Responsibilities

Administrators must regularly do the following:

  • Check articles that may have vandalized/plagiarized parts or spam and revert them
  • Mark pages with {{delete}} when necessary
    • Delete pages if the consensus agreed the article is unneeded
  • Protect pages from being edited
  • Block discourteous or trolling users and vandals.
  • Routinely check the forums page.

Administrator Etiquette

Administrators are expected to support the goal of the wiki to be a comprehensive online source for Survivor. With this, Administrators are entrusted to do (and not do) the following:

  • Administrators should not utilize admin-exclusive tools without reaching a consensus with the users. The administrator should not abuse his power over the wiki's content and policies. However, Administrators reserve the right to block any user who will be caught vandalizing or intimidating other users. They may also delete pages that are not related to Survivor.
  • As administrators, they are to respect opinions of others. Admins do not own the site.
  • Any breach of these conditions are grounds for removal of administration rights after a community discussion.

Inactivity

To keep their administration rights, administrators should remain active in the wiki where they have administration rights. An "active" is defined as:

  • Delivering consistent and substantial contributions several days a month. This does not include modifying user space pages, or correcting spelling/grammar/formatting.
  • Reasonably quick in replying to user message walls.
  • Should an administrator be unable to fulfill his or her duties as an administrator, they must file a leave of absence by leaving a message to a bureaucrat's message wall.
  • If an administrator continues to be inactive for a prolonged period of time, removal of user rights will be considered by an active bureaucrat based on the non-fulfillment of the aforementioned activity guidelines. Consideration will begin from when any leaves of absence were meant to finish. If there is dispute for any reason, the community will have a say if the administrator in question should be retained in the said position. In any case of revocation of administrator rights, any former admin will be demoted back from being a rollback.

Requirements

To be an administrator

Application

To become an administrator, a user must be:

  • A registered Wikia user with Rollback rights.
  • A registered user with historically strong contributions.
  • A trusted user in the Survivor Wiki community
  • A user with no history of being blocked for serious reasons (e.g. vandalism and spamming)

A bureaucrat will announce an opening for new admins, usually when an administrator steps down or is found inactive. Once a forum announcement has been done, any user may nominate a user or himself, as long as the user has rollback rights. There are no limits as to how many rollbacks may apply, but we will only consider applications that are sent 48 hours after the application thread has been posted. If there is only one applicant, the subsequent process will still be followed.

Screening

Any rollback who wishes to be an admin will be subjected to an interview process to be done by the bureaucrats and admins, which is to be done at the forums page, before undergoing a voting process. Only bureaucrats and current admins are allowed to participate in the interview. The screening process will last for a week.

Voting Process

After the week-long interview, bureaucrats and admins will vote {{support}} or {{oppose}} and must state their reason for voting. After the given deadline, whatever the consensus of the admins will determine which among the applicants is the most suitable for admin status. In this consensus, quality is over quantity, which means, the strength of the justifications as to why an applicant deserves to be granted admin rights will be considered, not because he relatively garnered more "support" votes than his opponents. The user with the strongest "support" comments will be granted administrator rights. Those who did not pass the application may still apply for the next opening.
