More than Meats the Eye is the sixth episode of Survivor: The Amazon.

Story[]

Night 15[]

After Tribal Council, Christy Smith was shocked that Jeanne Hebert was blindsided, stating that she believed that Jeanne was a strong member of the tribe, and she needed to know why. While talking with the other members of Tambaqui, Roger Sexton explained that Jeanne possessed qualities that Butch Lockley already had, and that both Heidi and Christy brought assets to the tribe that were irreplacable. Dave Cruser would say in a confessional that Roger's explanation was different to the one the Tambaqui men had before Tribal Council, and that Jeanne was already the target at Jaburu had there not been a tribe switch. Heidi also explained why she, too, voted for Jeanne, as she did not want to have a deeply divided tribe. Christy would say that she felt relieved the other tribe members saw something in her.

Day 16[]

Morning breaks on Tambaqui, where Roger assigns Heidi and Christy with one camp chore, while the men leave camp to fish. While on their own, Heidi questions with Christy whether Heidi made the correct decision in voting off Jeanne.

At Jaburu, Matthew von Ertfelda speaks in a confessional about how he felt he was on the outs with the men, but has found a renewed purpose here at Jaburu with Rob Cesternino and Alex Bell. Meanwhile, the tribe is brushing their teeth this morning, happy that they have clean teeth for the first time in 16 days. Although Deena Bennett is worried about her position in the tribe dynamics, she speaks in confessional that she is fascinated by the guys that moved from Tambaqui. Jaburu overall is happy that the game and strategy is not the focal point of tribe life.

The Reward Challenge was close, 4-4, with one more point needed for either tribe to win. In the final round, Christy faced off against and beat Jenna Morasca, winning the reward for her tribe.

At Jaburu, the tribe is bummed they did not win reward, but aren't worried because the main focus is the upcoming Immunity Challenge. They talk about cleaning the mud off of themselves and each other in their "communal bath".

Meanwhile, at Tambaqui, the tribe discusses how well the Reward Challenge went. Butch then talks about how there were only a handful of defining moments in his life while coaching and working with children, and that watching Christy's realization that she truly belonged at Tambaqui and reaction to winning reward for her tribe was now another of those moments he would never forget.

Christy
Hearing him say that is like, (whispers) "Yes, yes." I mean, I strive through my whole life just to try to prove that to people or show people that there's nothing wrong with me.

Back at Jaburu, Rob talks about how Alex is more interested in making friends than strategizing and says that it's stupid. He would later talk to Deena and form a co-ed alliance. He later talks about how Matthew is necessary due to his fishing skills and being an extra number at Tribal Council. Rob then comes to Matthew and talks to him about joining him and Deena, to which he accepts, and Rob would then say in confessional that he is duping Matthew and talking about how Matthew is a physical threat. Jaburu later share life stories by the campfire that night.

Day 18[]

As day breaks on Jaburu, in back-to-back confessionals, Alex talks about him being peeved with Matthew, while Deena talks about how little Shawna Mitchell works at camp and her relationship with the men. Meanwhile, at Tambaqui, a very large bone is found in their Tree Mail, and Butch jokingly says he doesn't want to meet the dog that the bone belonged to. Written on the bone is a hint of the upcoming Immunity Challenge and about the upcoming merge.

At the Immunity Challenge, Jaburu collects just under 9 kg of meat, while Tambaqui collects just over 9 kg and win Immunity in a close contest. Jaburu discuss their loss, with Alex and Matthew subtly targeting each other. Jenna speaks in confessional about being unsure who to vote for at Tribal Council, while Rob also talks about trying to save Matthew.

At Tribal Council, Jaburu answers Jeff Probst's questions about their new relationships since the tribe switch happened. Deena jokingly describes there's a lot of "sexual heat" going on at camp, which she calls a "love shack". Matthew talks about his role as a provider, which he relishes the opportunity to be for Jaburu, while Rob talks about being the entertainer. Shawna talks about how she's feeling much better and full of energy. Deena closes the questionings by saying that this vote will be the hardest one she's gone through so far. While Alex and Shawna both vote for Matthew, the other four members of the tribe vote Shawna out in a 4-2 vote.

Challenges[]

Challenge: Log Jam
The tribes will face off in a log-rolling competition. The first tribe to win five matches wins.
Reward: Spices, fruits, and vegetables
Winner: Tambaqui

Challenge: Piranha Feast
Both tribes have ten minutes to rip shreds of meat from a hanging slab of beef and place it into a basket for weighing. The tribe with the heavier basket wins immunity.

Voting Confessionals[]

Alex's confessional and an edited version of Rob's confessional were shown in the episode.

(voting against Shawna) I'm voting for you, Shawna, only because of strategy. You know what the deal is. Physically, you're not there. I'll see you soon. Eat well.
S6 matthew t
Matthew
(voting against Shawna) She is the weakest link.
S6 rob t
Rob
(voting against Shawna) Shawna, I think you're a really incredible girl, and I am so happy this twist awarded me the opportunity to meet you. I think you are one of the nicest people I've ever met, and you put what's good for others before what's good for you. Unfortunately, that also makes you a really terrible Survivor player.
S6 shawna t
Shawna
(voting against Matthew) We've got to keep the team together, keep the team strong. Have a good one.
S6 deena t
Deena
(voting against Shawna) I think you're an incredibly courageous individual, to go from wanting out of the game and coming back, to wanting to stay. This vote is purely strategic. God bless you.
S6 alex t
Alex
(voting against Matthew) Matt, I'm voting for you because later on down the line, you may be a threat, and, uh, I dunno. We'll see what happens.

Final Words[]

Shawna
I went through so much in this brief amount of time. I don't think I've ever had a bigger crash course in life. At age 24, I never thought I'd be so touched by an experience. My trip may have ended here but this is so the beginning of an absolutely new me. You guys, thank you so much for the time of my life. You're awesome.
