Lock Step (also known as Unchained, Temptation Valley, and Full Tilt Boogey) is a recurring challenge from Survivor.
Rules[]
The tribes race against each other through a series of obstacles, while attached together by a rope. The first tribe to successfully complete the course with all of its members across the finish line wins.
In Survivor: The Amazon, in each section of the obstacle course, the tribes must gather a series of keys to unlock sections of the chain. First tribe to unlock their chain and cross the finish line wins.
In Survivor: Gabon, only six members of each tribes will compete in the obstacle course, while the remaining three will solve a puzzle at the end.
History[]
United States[]
The challenge debuted in Survivor: The Australian Outback. The tribes were even to the river. Kucha took a lead on the third leg, and although Rodger fell twice during the sprint, Maralyn proved too costly for Ogakor as they dropped their second straight Immunity Challenge.
In The Amazon, the Tambaqui tribe took an early lead, however the Jaburu tribe pulled ahead when Daniel and Ryan had trouble with the balance beam, and won immunity.
In Gabon, the tribes were even throughout the course, but Fang could not unearth all the three bags of puzzle pieces, leaving allowing Kota to win the first Immunity Challenge of the season.
The challenge reappeared as a post-merge Reward Challenge in Game Changers, with the family visit on the line. The Maku Maku tribe was divided into three teams of three players tethered to each other. Each team would start the challenge in the water, making their way across a series of obstacles back to shore, dig their way under a log in the sand, and unbraid ropes to release a key that unlocks a chest of sandbags. They will then use the sandbags to knock over a pyramid of blocks. The team of Andrea Boehlke, Aubry Bracco, and Brad Culpepper held a consistent lead throughout the challenge, and Brad's skilled showing at the sandbag toss clinched them the victory.
France[]
Mexico (Unofficial)[]
The challenge was used as an Immunity Challenge for La Isla 2012. The castaways had to traverse several obstacles in a river, and at the end assemble a pyramid puzzle. The Desconocidos tribe got to an early lead, but struggled a bit in the puzzle, allowing the Celebridades tribe to catch up. It wasn't enough though, as they also had problems when assembling it, making it the third Immunity win in a row for the Desconocidos.
South Africa[]
In Survivor South Africa: Panama, the challenge was used as the inaugural Immunity Challenge in Survivor South Africa. The tribes were tethered to a mast, which they had to maneuver into and out of a mangrove swamp before returning to their raft. Then, they would untie the knots in a rope so that they can raise their mast. Aguila narrowly pulled off the victory, sending Rana to the series' first Tribal Council.
In Champions, the tribes would be tethered together as they run into the jungle in search of a certain item; the tribes would call out their tribe name once one member has a hand on the item. The tribes would compete in five rounds, with a different reward up for grabs in each round. Utara won the first and last rounds, finding a model ship and a gun to win watermelon and pineapples respectively. Selatan won the second and third rounds, finding a bottle of rum and a globe to win dragonfruit and honeydew respectively. In the fourth round, Utara captain Mark Fish disputed Altaaf Sheik calling out for Selatan without having a hand on the dagger in that round; Nico Panagio called a tie and awarded both teams an equal share of rambutan and rambutan juice.
