Kicking and Screaming is a recurring physical challenge that originated in Survivor: Cook Islands and was reused in later seasons.

Rules

Three castaways per tribe would sit and hold onto a pole for as long as they can. Two members from the same gender would pull a member from the rival tribe and same gender off the pole to a mat. Once they get the person to touch the mat in any way possible then the next two castaways go. The first tribe to get all the castaways to touch the mat wins the challenge.

History

The challenge debut in Survivor: Cook Islands for a feast of Lamb shanks at the Double Tribal Council. Cao Boi sat out for Aitu. Candice, Ozzy, and Sundra was on the posts for Aitu while Cristina, Nate, and Jenny were on the posts for Raro. Raro struggled with Candice, allowing Aitu to surge ahead and win. 

In Gabon, the challenge was used for reward in the form of comfort. Both tribes had to sit out players. Fang sat out Ken while Kota sat out Corinne, Jacquie, and Kelly. In the First round, GC struggled with Ace, giving Kota the first round. In the second Ace convince Paloma to hang on to the post. However, the Fang members easily overpowered her, tying the tribes one each. In the third round, Ace was eventually overpowered by Crystal and Matty, leading to their first victory.

In Survivor: Cagayan, one member of each tribe would hang on to a post. Two members of the opposing tribe would attempt to remove the tribe member from the post and drag them across the sand to the finish line. The first tribe to get the member of the other tribe across the finish line would receive one point. The new Solana tribe won the Reward Challenge 2–1, after Cliff proved too heavy for Spencer and Jeremiah to shift.

Trivia

• This had always been strictly used as a Reward Challenge.
  • Survivor: Cagayan was the only season where one of the competing tribes wasn't red.
  • It is also the only season to not produce a winner coming from a red tribe, although Survivor: Cagayan doesn't have any red tribes.
• The Runner-Up has always been on the winning tribe.
