Gina was placed on the Maraamu tribe at the start of the game and quickly formed a strong friendship with Hunter Ellis. After Maraamu lost the first Immunity Challenge, Gina joined the tribe in voting out Peter Harkey, who was the tribe outsider. By Day 4, Gina and Hunter's friendship solidified into an unofficial alliance. When Marammu lost their second Immunity Challenge, Gina and Hunter targeted Rob Mariano's closest ally, Sarah Jones, whom they perceived to be the weakest link. Gina and Hunter talked to the other tandem in the tribe, Vecepia Towery and Sean Rector, along with the only remaining outsider, Patricia Jackson, about voting with them. Rob also talked to Vecepia and Sean about voting the tribes oldest member, Patricia. At Tribal Council, Sean and Vecepia sided against Gina's alliance, voting out Patricia.
When the Rotu tribe won the Day 9 Immunity Challenge, Gina again attempted to convince Sean and Vecepia to side with Hunter and herself against Rob. Unfortunately for Gina, Vecepia and Sean remained loyal to their alliance with Rob and joined him in voting out Gina's closest ally, Hunter. At the next Reward Challenge, a Tribe Switch occurred, keeping Gina on Maraamu (along with Sarah) and gaining new tribemates Kathy Vavrick-O'Brien, Paschal English, and Neleh Dennis. Despite the new additions to the team, Maraamu was still unable to win immunity. At the next Tribal Council, Gina sided with the old Rotu members, finally voting out Sarah.
After finally winning her first Immunity Challenge on Day 15, Gina began to feel accepted by her new tribe members, something she hadn't felt on the original Maraamu. Gina helped lead her tribe to victory during the Reward Challenge, but, due to Kathy's poor leadership, were unable to win the Immunity Challenge. Although Gina initially thought that Kathy would be eliminated due to her poor challenge performance, she was surprised to discover that the original Rotu members were going to be voting together, blindsiding her in a unanimous 3-1 vote at Tribal Council.
