Daniel Patrick Martin Aloysius "Dan" Foley[2] is a contestant from Survivor: Worlds Apart.

Dan is best known for his outspoken candor and undiluted opinions of his fellow tribemates in confessionals, many of which landed him in controversy both during and after his time on the show. He is also known for winning an Extra Vote advantage at the Survivor Auction. He remained loyal to the dominant Escameca Alliance despite several incidents that called into question his status within that group, and was only eliminated after Carolyn Rivera nullified a majority vote against her with a Hidden Immunity Idol.

Name (Age): Dan Foley, 47
Tribe Designation: Blue Collar (Escameca)
Current Residence: Gorham, Maine
Occupation: Postal Worker
Personal Claim to Fame: I had a terrible fear of heights so I faced it head on. I went on my first airplane ride…and jumped out at 13,000 feet. Heights don't really bother me anymore.
Inspiration in Life: My Dad, Phil Foley. Now that I am an adult, I look back on the things my Dad did for my family (my siblings, my mom and myself) and I realize what kind of sacrifices he made for us. Having been one of the four kids that my parents adopted, I acknowledge even more the love that he gave all of us growing up and continues to give every day.
Hobbies: Anything with my wife, Erin, disc golf and working on my properties.
What is your favorite sport? If I'm watching, Football, and if I'm playing, disc golf.
Pet Peeves: People who drive too slow in the fast lane and won't get out of the way.
3 Words to Describe You: Opinionated, adventurous and gregarious.
If You Could Have 3 Things on The Island What Would They Be and Why? 1. A deck of cards to help pass the time. 2. A picture of my family to remind me of what's waiting for me. 3. Some disc golf discs to help bond with my tribe mates and to possibly use to hunt.
Survivor Contestant You Are Most Like: I think I have Stephenie's competitive spirit, Tony's cunning and scheming gameplay, and Rupert's strength, love of family and stunning good looks.
Reason for Being on Survivor: To claim my rightful place amongst the elite winners of Survivor! Second, to challenge myself in the greatest psychological and sociological challenge ever!
Why You'll "Survive" Survivor: Obviously, any challenge that involves a lot of running will not be in my "wheelhouse," but anything involving gross food eating, strength, swimming, puzzles or balance, I'll be in it to the end. As for the social game, I am a world class "schmooze" artist. I can charm my way out of almost anything.
Why Will You Be the Sole Survivor: As a landlord, I am excellent at reading people and controlling some pretty out of control situations. As an Irishman, I have a glorious stubborn streak and I hate to lose. As a technician, I have a very analytical mind so I'll be great at puzzles. I'm also very good with my hands so I'll be a big help around camp. I am the entire package. Also, I am not above taking the rules of fair play in a spirited competition and grinding them to dust beneath my heel.[3]

Dan was a member of the "Blue Collar" Escameca tribe. When his tribe was building their shelter, he and Lindsey Cascaddan got into an argument. Lindsey, Rodney Lavoie Jr., and Sierra Dawn Thomas thought he was bossy and wanted to vote him out. He started to feel at the bottom of his tribe. However, he formed a bond with Mike Holloway and both of them were seen as the leaders of the tribe so he was able to put himself in a better position. The Blue Collars won the first three Immunity Challenges. However, they lost their first Immunity Challenge on Day 11. After the challenge, Dan, Mike and Kelly Remington formed an alliance with Rodney. Rodney wanted to vote for Lindsey for her outbursts at camp. At Tribal Council, the alliance split their votes between Lindsey and Sierra and voted out Lindsey in the revote.

After Tribal Council, Sierra asked everyone why she received votes and Dan told her that she performed poorly in the challenge which really hurt her. On Day 12, a tribe switch occurred. Dan remained on Escameca with Mike, Sierra, and Rodney but lost Kelly. However, they gained former White Collars Tyler Fredrickson and Joaquin Souberbielle and formed No Collar Joe Anglim. Dan, Mike, and Rodney noticed that Sierra might abandon them and Dan insulted her over it. Later, Mike told Dan to apologize to Sierra so she could stick with them. Dan apologized to her. However, he said that the only reason he insulted her was because she insulted him before the previous Immunity Challenge, and this angered her. His tribe threw the Immunity Challenge on Day 16 to save Kelly. After the challenge, Dan and Mike decided to vote out Joaquin for his friendship with Rodney. Joe sided with them. They vied for Sierra's vote. At Tribal Council, Sierra joined Dan's side and Joaquin was blindsided in a 4-3 vote, stunning both Rodney and Joaquin.

On Day 17, the tribes merged. Kelly rejoined Dan and the other blue collars. Joe won immunity on Day 19 so the alliance targeted Jenn Brown. Former No Collar Will Sims II and former White Collars Carolyn Rivera and Tyler joined Dan and his allies putting his alliance in the majority. They voted against Jenn Brown. However, she played her Hidden Immunity Idol negating the seven votes cast against her and blindsiding Kelly in a 4-1-0 vote. On Day 21, Dan attempted to align with Shirin Oskooi because they were both super fans. However, his condescending remarks about how she would never win rubbed her the wrong way and she refused to align with him. Joe won immunity again on Day 22. Dan was a target for his rude comments towards Shirin. At Tribal Council he received four votes, however Hali Ford was blindsided. Tyler won immunity on Day 24 and Joe was voted out at Tribal Council.

At the Survivor Auction, Dan, Carolyn, and Mike were saving their money for an advantage. However, they all agreed to buy their letters from their loved ones for $20 respectively at Shirin's suggestion. However, Mike reneged on the plan and this made Dan and the others turn on him. However, Mike went back and got his letter, but Dan was still mad. Then he, Mike, and Carolyn bid for the advantage and Dan ultimately won. His advantage was he gets to play an Extra Vote at a Tribal Council. After the auction, Mike blew up Rodney's inner alliance but this made Dan and the others turn on him. However, Mike won immunity on Day 27. At Tribal Council, Jenn was voted out. On Day 28, Dan and Sierra discussed Mike's claim that they were on the bottom of the majority alliance. He then went to comfort Shirin about Will's comments at the previous Tribal Council. Mike won immunity again on Day 29. Mike tried to realign with Dan but was unsuccessful. At Tribal Council, Mike showed everyone his Hidden Immunity Idol and told he was going to play it for Shirin. This caused Tyler and Will to vote for Dan. However, Shirin was still voted out.

After she was voted out, Dan along with some of the others started clapping. When they returned to camp, Tyler and Will apologized to Dan for voting for him. Carolyn won immunity on Day 32. However, due to the Mike having the idol, the majority alliance of six were forced to turn on each other. Dan was targeted for his advantage. At Tribal Council, the men minus Mike voted for Mike while the girls and Mike voted for Tyler. Mike played his idol negating the four votes cast against him blindsiding Tyler. Mike won immunity on Day 35, forcing the majority alliance of five to turn on each other. Dan targeted Carolyn for her impressive challenge performances, but the others thought about getting rid of Dan because of his advantage. Dan spoke up at Tribal Council about using his Extra Vote option, in an attempt to have the votes to get out Carolyn. This sparked an indecisive Carolyn to play her Hidden Immunity Idol, and also caused Mike and Carolyn to cast their votes against Dan, who they were convinced was clearly not on their side moving forward. All five votes for Carolyn would be negated, and Dan with the votes of Mike and Carolyn would be voted out of the game.

At the Final Tribal Council, Dan berated Mike for not caring about the jury, Mike then told Dan that he regretted losing his trust after his actions at the auction, and apologized to him, and Dan accepted his apology. After a long deliberation and banging his head against the voting booth, Dan cast his vote for Mike to win the game which he did by a 6-1-1 vote.

At the live Reunion Show, Dan faced a lot of controversy over his comments throughout the season. One of the things he took the most heat for was when he said he wanted to slap Shirin. He defended himself by saying that he did not know about her past and that his comment was meant metaphorically not literally. Then he apologized to her. Another thing he took heat for was when he called Rodney's mom a whore. He defended himself by saying they were making yo mamma jokes. However, Jeff pulled a raw footage of that scene and showed it to everybody, and when everyone watched it there weren't any yo mamma jokes when he made that comment. He then said that he was kidding when he made that comment and when he met Rodney's mother she said that she knew he was kidding. He then apologized to Rodney and his mother.
