Storms is the second episode of Survivor: The Amazon.

Story[]

Day 4[]

The sun rises as various shots of anacondas and alligators are seen swimming in the Rio Negro water, while a sloth is seen hanging in a tree. Afterward, Jaburu's camp is shown, with the women sleeping on the floor of the Amazon for the fourth day in a row without a shelter. Janet Koth speaks in a confessional that it doesn't feel like one at all and hasn't helped daily life at camp, and Heidi Strobel concurs that sentiment in her confessional, stating that maintaining the fire and getting clean water day by day has taken most of the energy out of the women. Deena Bennett then attempts to lead the women in order to delegate tasks. Jeanne Hebert talks about how important this is in confessional. Shawna Mitchell talks about how she thinks the men over at Tambaqui have everything in order already. An aerial shot leads to a view of Tambaqui's banner, where Matthew von Ertfelda is preparing a dish of manioc flour. Alex Bell speaks in confessional about how well their camp has held up, and that they've figured out how to cook their flour, while pancakes made from it are being served. He proclaims that it isn't the Ritz, but they're surviving at least. They all collectively decide to go out to fish as a tribe.

The last few days here have been a little embarrassing. Uh, we lost the first Immunity Challenge but we've established a-a very good team.

The men attempt to catch fish with a net, with the first attempt failing to catch anything. However, dark clouds quickly roll in while the men continue to try and catch fish. They then decide to return to camp due to the possible danger that a storm could bring.

And about seconds before we got back, it-it just dumped, it rained hard.

Meanwhile, at Jaburu, the tribe's boat is filling with water while the women try to construct a shelter in the downpouring of rain. Shawna speaks openly to the camera crew about how hard it's been raining. As the sun breaks out from the clouds and the rain stops pouring, both tribes paddle to the first Reward Challenge of the season, as Jeff Probst reveals that the reward will be fishing bait. Christy Smith does not participate in this challenge for the women, but she does smile and chuckle at how inept Butch Lockley and JoAnna Ward are at ordering their respective tribes through the challenge from the sit-out bench as the challenge is underway. Tambaqui try to come back during the puzzle portion of the challenge, but the lead the Jaburu women have is large enough to convincingly win the Reward Challenge. That night, a downbeat Tambaqui are upset they're "losing to a bunch of girls" as Dave Johnson says in confessional, with the rest of the men at camp also sharing the same sentiment.

Day 5[]

Day breaks with more shots of the Amazonian flora and fauna before going to Jaburu, where the women fry portions of manioc flour. Jeanne, Janet, and Jenna Morasca each talk about how the manioc isn't cutting it and how the women are craving for something more delicious. Later, the women begin to use their fishing bait by casting a piece into the water and praying a fish will bite. One eventually does, much to Jeanne's delight, but it lets go and swims away. At Tambaqui, Rob Cesternino begins to scheme and think of a way to get Roger Sexton voted out.

S6 rob t
Rob
I was really stumped on who I can get that might vote against Roger up until this morning when a light bulb went off in my head. Alex and Roger had a little bit of a tiff this morning over homosexuality.
S6 rob t
Rob
Now what I'm hoping is that this has planted the seed in Ale-- in Alex's head that Roger may not be all he's cracked up to be. Roger is a bigot.

At night, the women at Jaburu talk about how dark everything gets and how their fire is their lifeline in the jungle. JoAnna talks about how creepy the Immunity Idol is everytime she looks at it. Her other reasonings are explained by Deena in a confessional about how idols are unlawful in regards to the Ten Commandments, and that there should be no other god before God, and that JoAnna doesn't even want to look at it or touch it because of her devout faith. JoAnna later talks about how she believes God struck lightning and rain upon the Amazon after they won the Immunity Challenge.

Day 6[]

Day breaks, as Christy and Jeanne talk about how Christy is unable to decipher what the other women are saying at night and how much of a disadvantage that is. Jeanne then tells her about what was talked about last night, which included JoAnna's hatred of the Immunity Idol, which Jeanne talks about in confessional, adding that Christy said that was stupid to think that way. Christy was unaware that JoAnna was within earshot of Christy as she said this, and a heated argument begun between the two. Jaburu later find the wrapping of a granola bar at the bottom of the tribe's wooden crate after pulling out their luxury items, among other things inside.

S6 jenna t
Jenna
We put all of our stuff in the box and we covered it up 'cause it was gonna rain and we took all the packs out and at the bottom there's a granola bar. It was a wrapper. I had no idea if it was empty or not. First it was like, immediate anger, like, "Who brought this? You're not allowed to bring this. It's food, we're starving. You have no right to eat over us."
S6 heidi t
Heidi
We ultimately burned it in the fire because it was definitely not fair. The guys didn't have one, we should not have had one.
S6 deena t
Deena
Everybody is adamantly denying it, then it sets off the whole inquisition party. And of course I want to know who took the candy bar?

Jaburu slowly begin to come to the consensus that Janet was the culprit. Tambaqui opens their Tree Mail and get a clue to the upcoming Immunity Challenge. Each tribe must recall what is inside an Amazon home, and the various items in it. Jeff states that Christy cannot be chosen to sit out twice in a row, so Shawna volunteers to sit out. This challenge was a close contest, but Tambaqui eventually win the challenge due to having more points by a score of 6 to 4.

After the challenge, Christy tries to convince the tribe to complete the shelter, with her thoughts in confessional that they are being lazy about it. Deena, in a confessional of her own, said that it set her off but she let that slide because it just wasn't worth her time to argue about it. The women eventually do get around to completing the shelter, with Deena collecting palm fronds for Christy. Christy, however, wants to go out and fish instead, which doesn't go over well with the other women at Jaburu. She speaks in another confessional about how the tribe hasn't really communicated with her, claiming that Jenna hasn't even spoken to her at all. Deena says in confessional that if Christy is voted out that night, it will not be because of her disability, but due to her grating personality. Janet openly talks to her tribe about how the tribe as a whole has accused her of smuggling in the granola bar, which she denies.

At Tribal Council, Jeff Probst instructs the women to take part in the Survivor tradition of picking up their torches and lighting them with the open flame nearby. When asked if she looks up to anyone in the tribe, Janet speaks highly of JoAnna and Deena for their strength. Jeff talks about how in camp, there are things to be done first and foremost, such as building a shelter. Deena tells Jeff they don't have one constructed, with JoAnna concurring and talking about the tribe will die without a fire to boil the water to make it drinkable. When asked about what the tribe is falling behind on that she could do a better job of, Christy quickly says that the shelter as her answer, to which JoAnna scoffs at, and Christy continues to explain her frustrations with the tribe as a whole. Jeff asks her if she feels it has to do with her deafness, to which she says yes while feeling very emotional about feeing left out of the loop by the other women. Jenna feels offended at Christy's notion that she works hard while others in the tribe are hardly working at camp. Christy's feelings were laid bare, but despite her attitude and issues the other women have with her, Jaburu voted to send Janet home by a vote of 5-1-1-1.

Challenges[]

Challenge: Flip Out
Each tribe must designate a caller. The rest of the tribe members are divided into three pairs and blindfolded, and the caller must guide their tribemates so that they can retrieve 30 designated giant puzzle pieces surrounded by obstacles. Once all 30 pieces are collected, the tribe members must remove their blindfolds and work together to solve the puzzle. The first tribe to solve the puzzle wins reward.
Reward: Jar of fish bait
Winner: Jaburu

Challenge: Total Recall
Both tribes will be given two minutes to observe a traditional Amazon home. After the two minutes are up, host Jeff Probst will ask the tribe a series of questions about the Amazon home. The tribe that scores the most points out of ten wins.
Winner: Tambaqui

S6 jenna t
Jenna

Final Words[]

Janet
Well, guys. It was an amazing-- an amazing week. I found out I am not an Amazonian woman. I am a Cancun woman. For all you middle-aged women out there that are thinking of having a mid-life crisis, I would highly suggest a change of hairstyle. So, thanks and good luck.
