Girl Power is the third episode of Survivor: The Amazon.

Story[]

Day 7[]

Lightning strikes as day breaks in the Amazon, bringing rain with it. At Tambaqui, Rob Cesternino marks a nearby tree with a seventh mark, proclaiming how God rested on the seventh day. They are seen collecting materials to repair their roof, as Rob talks about how a rainstorm has caused leakage. Daniel Lue speaks in confessional about how Roger Sexton is an unfreindly person in camp and constantly barking orders to the other men at camp, adding that he knows that Roger wants to vote him out and vice-versa, as well as how bad Roger smells. Matthew von Ertfelda pulls Daniel aside and tries to cheer him up and advises him to not feel so down on his position in the game while the two converse in both English and Mandarin Chinese.

S6 matthew t
Matthew
Daniel and I came together because he speaks Mandarin Cantonese. I was born in Hong Kong, I speak some Mandarin, and we started to speak Mandarin together and there was an immediate connection.
S6 daniel t
Daniel
Matthew and I are great friends, uh, he's my best friend out here and he's a really good ally. Let me tell you something, he's being truthful whereas other guys who are out here when they tell you something, you have no idea if they're telling the truth or if they're lying.

Meanwhile at Jaburu, Jeanne Hebert speaks in confessional about how bad hygiene is at camp, talking about how wasps have begun to invade. Deena Bennett notices a spider on their manioc barrel and tries to kill it, but it gets away. Some of their supply of manioc flour has molded as well. They come together to make a plan to get work done at camp. A meeting is then called into order to establish tribe leadership, and a consensus to appoint Deena as leader is brought up by Jeanne and JoAnna Ward.

S6 deena t
Deena
Nobody wants to step up to be leader because that puts a big target on your body and who wants to get voted out of the game? I didn't take that with open arms but yes, I am going to do it. I'm going to delegate tasks. I told them that that was my goal.

Tribe chemistry begins to improve as Heidi Strobel talks in confessional about how the women have done better than the men in challenges and that fact has rallied them together to beat the men even more. At the Reward Challenge, Jeff Probst explains the rules and reveals the reward to be toiletries and hygiene supplies. The two tribes begin to joke around and have a great time during the Reward Challenge as they begin to introduce themselves to each other while the challenge goes on. Alex Bell jokes about how he knows Jenna Morasca's name because "he's really smart and he pays attention". When Rob asks Heidi if she has an item and Heidi says no, Rob shakes his head and says "Shot down by another woman..." which draws laughter from the other contestants as well as Probst himself. When Deena takes an item from him, he jokingly complains the women are picking him clean. When Jeanne asks Dave Johnson if he has shampoo, Jaburu wins reward by a score of 18 to 14. The women cheer ecstatically over what they won.

As night falls on Tambaqui, Rob talks about how he gained a far better reward than he could have hoped for. Rob jokingly lusts over the women, specifically Heidi, while Daniel does much the same about Shawna Mitchell. Rob later talks about how JoAnna's constant hymns over Jesus is a bit of a turn-off, and he contemplates why Jesus has a vested interest in wanting Jaburu to win since Jesus is a man and Rob thinks that Jesus would probably want the men to win. Alex and Dave both talk about how attractive Jenna is in confessional. Butch Lockley also sheepishly laughs a bit in confessional about how the age difference between them makes it a bit taboo to look at her in that way, even though he admits he thinks Jenna is attractive as well.

Day 8[]

Day breaks at Jaburu, where the women are cleaning themselves off. Christy Smith speaks about how the younger and older women tend to split off into their cliques when bathing, and that she is with the older women more despite her own age and joking about how Heidi and Jenna are checking each other out while they bathe. Heidi talks about how herself, Jenna, and Shawna are better looking than the older women and how she thinks that it's likely a problem for the older women of the tribe. She also talks about the idea of simply going topless at the merge in order to keep the men distracted from thinking straight.

At Tambaqui, Matthew talks with Dave about the idea of either keeping Roger or Daniel, while Rob and Alex start to form an alliance with each other. Matthew and Dave both talk about how they distrust Alex. They then begin to catch some fish which delights them to no end, bringing the fish back to camp to clean and scale them. Rob then jokes in confessional about how Matthew longs for proper seasonings to make the fish taste much better when cooking them, and Matthew openly talks about how their utensils and "service vessels" are primitive. Alex compliments Rob in confessional about putting on a good front as the goofy, funny kid, when in reality Rob really knows how to play this game, as well as talking about how he is in a sudden position of power as a swing vote.

Day 9[]

Jaburu work at camp to build a proper shelter and roof, while an interesting edited beat and rhythm is set in with various shots of machetes chopping wood, fire being made with flint, water being poured, palm fronds being dragged across the Amazon floor and so on. This is all being done while the women talk about how good a job Deena is doing in managing tasks around camp. Although Deena is seen as bossy by some, that was the reason why she was picked as Deena needed to be. Meanwhile, fish is being caught and the debris around camp is being cleared. Deena talks in confessional about how vital the fish being caught are, citing the need for protein. JoAnna sings a hymn out loud after catching one, and even Christy is starting to catch a good number of fish. Some of the girls humorously start singing about how they'll never be beat by the guys again.

Tree Mail is opened with a clue to the next Immunity Challenge. Christy says she has a great feeling inside about beating the guys again. Jaburu is seen seemingly being prepped for war. Rob, meanwhile, starts asking questions to his luxury item, a Magic 8-Ball, along with the other men at Tambaqui. The Immunity Idol is reclaimed by Jeff Probst and he explains the rules. Both tribes are locked in their respective cages and the challenge gets underway. Jaburu wins the challenge in a landslide, and after recieving the idol, Deena plucks off the blue feathers on the idol and hands them to Rob.

Tambaqui return to camp crestfallen, wondering what it has to take to beat the women. Rob talks in confessional about how two other people butting heads (in this case Roger and Daniel) helps him greatly as the target is off of himself. He speaks with Daniel about who the vote is going to end up on, instructing Daniel not to come with him and wait for a minute before coming back to camp so as not to arouse any suspicion that they're working together in an alliance. As Dave speaks in confessional about Alex playing every side he can to gain favor, he himself wonders what he's missing socially. The men then row to Tribal Council as night falls on the Amazon.

At Tribal Council, Jeff asks how the men are feeling right now. Rob answers that, as a whole, Tambaqui isn't happy to be here as they're here two more times than they've wanted to be. Dave agrees with Rob's words. When asked about this being a new Billie Jean King moment, Roger brushes it aside by simply stating that they're only doing the best that they can to compete. Matthew rates his hunger as an 8 out of 10. Alex agrees, and the tribe talk about their attempts to fish, with Roger stating that he isn't a good fisherman and that others are better at it. When asked about friendships he's formed with the other men, Daniel talks about good a friend and relatable Matthew is, jokingly stating that Matthew is more Chinese than he is. He talks about being the only Asian-American here and feels his minority status is part of the target on his back, which Rob quickly shoots down by saying that has nothing to do with it, and that he isn't treating Daniel any differently than the others. He adds on that each and every one of the men here come from different backgrounds and walks of life and that is what makes them all unique as human beings. Roger speaks about his frustrations with Daniel, and vice versa. From the way Tambaqui voted in this Tribal Council, they see Roger as an irreplaceable leader in camp, and they send Daniel home in a unanimous vote.

Challenges[]

Challenge: Matchmaker
Each castaway will have a basket containing five items. The castaways must try to match one of their items with another castaway.
Reward: Toiletries
Winner: Jaburu

Challenge: The Great Escape
Each tribe will be locked inside a prison-like cage. In order to escape, the tribe members must untie a series of ropes in order to release a machete. Then the tribes must use their machete to cut through a rope, then they must undo another series of knots in order to release a plank, which will in turn release a pole. They must use the pole to retrieve a set of keys on the outside of the cage. Once the keys are collected, they must unlock their chains and release their escape hatch. The first tribe to do so wins.
Winner: Jaburu

Voting Confessionals[]

Daniel and Roger's confessionals were shown in the episode.

S6 daniel t
Daniel
(voting against Roger) Roger, you've been out here six days too long. Talk to you later.
S6 dave t
Dave
(voting against Daniel) Dan, this isn't about ethnicity. I don't think you have too much experience. I think you're out of your element, and I don't see the work ethic I would like to see at this point.
S6 roger t
Roger
(voting against Daniel) Dan, I think I pretty much said it at Tribal Council. You're out of your element, and you have not been a team player.
S6 butch t
Butch
(voting against Daniel) Dan, I know you were thrown into a situation that you were uncomfortable with, but you have not performed up to your abilities.
S6 rob t
Rob
(voting against Daniel) There once was a survivor named Daniel, who found this game too much to handle. He didn't do much, and now the time is such, for Jeff Probst to extinguish his candle.
S6 matthew t
Matthew
(voting against Daniel) He's out of his element. The deck is stacked against him.
S6 alex t
Alex
(voting against Daniel) We need a strong team, and I don't think you're part of it.

Final Words[]

S6 daniel bw
Daniel
Um, I don't regret a thing. I don't know what I could've done better. I tried my best at first, you know, to start a coup but it kinda fell through. I didn't mean that anybody, you know, knowingly made me an outcast in the group but it is who you relate with and with eight people, you know, you are not going to be able to relate with everybody. Roger, somebody made a stop payment on your reality check. That's all I gotta say.
