Austin Carty is a contestant from Survivor: Panama.

When switched to La Mina from Viveros, Austin would join Terry Deitz and Dan Barry to form an all-male's alliance. However, La Mina's losing streak cost them the numbers advantages. Because of Terry's immunity streak and no Hidden Immunity Idol, Austin was voted out.

Survivor[]

Being 24 at the time, Austin was placed on the Viveros tribe, which consisted of younger men. Upon learning on how the tribe was being divided, Austin expressed that he preferred to have some women on his tribe because he is a flirt. In the first challenge of the season, Austin was chosen to do the challenge. He was the second to complete the challenge and won flint for the tribe, earning the praise of his peers. The men generally goofed off at camp. They struggled with making fire (especially Aras Baskauskas), which weirded out Nick Stanbury and made a poorly constructed shelter. The men struggled at the Immunity Challenge, but they managed to beat out the older women to come in third and win immunity. That night was miserable due to rain leaking through the poorly built shelter.

On Day 4, everyone had to stand on a disc. The two people who had buffs under their disc, Terry Deitz and Danielle DiLorenzo would be captains for the Schoolyard Pick. Austin was picked by Sally Schumann to be on La Mina. Austin selected Misty Giles to be on La Mina, who would pick Nick. Soon after arriving at La Mina, Terry and his friend, Dan Barry, approached Austin and Nick for an alliance. Sally and Misty would soon do the same. La Mina won the following challenge and fishing gear. The spear won in the challenge would be lost on Sally's first attempt to use it. This would cause problems for La Mina as they had a hard time catching edible fish. La Mina won the next two challenges. At the third Immunity Challenge, Austin only went once and won, however the tribe lost the challenge. The older men wanted Misty out for being a threat, along with her poor show at the challenge. The younger women preferred to vote out Ruth Marie Milliman. At Tribal Council, Austin and Nick sided with the men, blindsiding Misty in a 5-2 vote.

Dan soon tried to recruit Ruth Marie into the alliance and promised her that she would be protected. However, after losing the next two challenges, Austin lobbied against Ruth Marie. He pointed out that Sally does better in challenges than Ruth Marie and pointed out that the others didn't make the promise to Ruth Marie. At Tribal Council, Austin got his way and Ruth Marie was voted out in a 4-2 vote. The next challenge was for fish, spices, rice, and beans. Despite leading the challenge, La Mina lost again. Austin was upset that they only had a bag of beans, while Casaya had all that food. The beans were eaten quickly and the younger men suffered from stomach pains. At the Immunity Challenge, La Mina had the lead as usual. However, this time, Austin and Sally were able to win La Mina a much needed immunity.

Desperate for food, Austin and Terry resorted to eating minnows. Dan soon revealed he was an astronaut, impressing Nick and Austin. The next Tree Mail  implied that the challenge was for both immunity and reward. La Mina resolved to win the next challenge to ensure equal numbers when they merge. However, despite leading at the challenge, Casaya won due to Dan and Sally faltering at the puzzle. Casaya exiled Sally, who would not attend Tribal Council and giving her an effective immunity. Being forced to vote out of their own, Austin eventually convinced Terry to vote out his friend, Dan. At Tribal Council, Dan went out gracefully and was saluted by his tribe. Austin would receive Dan's vote.

Austin was anxious about the when the merge would happen, because it would determine the fate of La Mina. The next Tree Mail said to look for something unusual. It was a boat with a crate full of supplies. A note on the crate, saying to go to Casaya beach. Shane Powers and Bruce Kanegai welcomed the men with open arms. Sally would soon join them. Everyone feasted on the contents of the box. Terry immediately worked on Bruce. However, they were forced to abandon that path due to Nick accidentally hitting Bruce in the face with the machete. Austin himself talked to Aras, but that made Austin realize convincing someone to flip would be difficult. At the Immunity Challenge, Austin pleaded with Terry to drop out of the challenge, but Terry refused. Austin eventually dropped out in third, with Terry winning immunity. Austin revealed in a confessional that he made himself look weak into to avoid having a target but he feared he was going to be voted out. Despite not being voted out, Casaya stayed together and Nick was voted out 6-4.

Although thankful to be in the game, Austin viewed his actions at Tribal Council as stupid. This was proven true as Aras and Courtney wanted him out, with the former actively lobbying against him. For the Reward Challenge, Austin was teamed with Terry and Shane. Despite departing first, they lost to the team of Aras, Bruce, and Sally. Austin was exiled with Danielle DiLorenzo. Heavy rains made life miserable for Austin and Danielle. Austin even stated that this was the most miserable experience in his life. However, Austin and Danielle bonded. She even considered him as a back up plan. At the Immunity Challenge, Austin made it to third round to the challenge, but was eliminated in that round. Terry won immunity over Sally. Austin felt in trouble without immunity. Terry wanted to use Austin's bond with Danielle to get her to flip along with Bruce by using the idol. Austin was ecstatic to have a chance in the game. Austin and Terry talked to Bruce and Danielle about flipping, with Terry offering his idol. In addition, Casaya was divided about the vote. Despite the lobbying, Bruce and Danielle stayed loyal to Casaya, voting out Austin in a 6-3 vote.

At Final Tribal Council, as a juror, Austin cast his vote for Aras, who ended up winning.
