Amber Petty is a contestant from Celebrity Survivor Australia.

Beginning on Moso, Amber was a member of the majority alliance and entered another majority after an unexpected tribe swap. Unbeknownst to her alliance members, Amber decided to flip on former tribe leader Fiona Horne, who she had clashed with. Alliance member Justin Melvey was deeply disturbed by Amber's betrayal, and despite Amber assured him her loyalty, Justin helped the others vote Amber out.

Amber Petty has certainly mingled with her fair share of celebrities. As an entertainment reporter, she has interviewed high profile stars from stage, screen, sport and the arts. Amber was most recently a regular Celebrity Insider columnist for New Idea where she interviewed stars such as Keith Urban, Ronn Moss and Chris Noth.

Amber’s passion for television began with her work at teen mag TV Hits, after which she went on to appear on MTV doing a regular celebrity/entertainment segment and then as a roving reporter. While at MTV, Amber was talent-spotted by Molly Meldrum, who offered her a role working alongside him. He invited her to co-host a major TV pilot.

The 35-year-old jokes that her school days have prepared her for the challenge of being a contestant on Celebrity Survivor.

"I think because I was one of the biggest game-playing private school girls ever that I’m hoping some of those old not-so-admirable traits might come in handy," she laughs.

“Not in terms of being bitchy but in terms of treating the game like a bit of a political campaign. You want to make friends but you’ve got to be aware of where your strengths lie with certain people and where theirs lie and keep on top of that. Each day is a new day and a different challenge in the game.

“I think my strengths will hopefully be that I get along well with a diverse range of people. I’m not someone who’s lived a sheltered life where I only mix with one group. I’ve always really enjoyed having quite different sorts of friends.”

While Amber adapts well to any situation, she admits that the other contestants probably have more of a physical advantage.

“Physically I would have to say I would be the most unfit out of the whole lot,” she laughs. “They all seem like reasonably healthy people and I’ve literally never had a gym membership in my life. I used to do a little bit of walking but I’ve now got a car and I don’t walk anywhere. I smoke, I don’t mind a drink and I don’t do any exercise whatsoever. Although most people in my family are naturally very good at sport and probably are a lot fitter than they deserve to be so I’m hoping that will work to my advantage. I’m going to be giving up smoking as well as trying to win this game. It could go horribly, horribly wrong. But I do like the outdoors. As long as there’s a nice little wooden deck with a little pergola situation...and someone on hand to get a cocktail. Yes, it’s lovely – I love the outdoors!”

Amber's chosen charity is the Australian Red Cross.

Celebrity Survivor Australia[]

Amber began the game on the Moso tribe, and despite finding herself out of her element, most notably being mocked at the marooning for bringing a tube of mascara to the island, Amber managed to adapt to the harsh conditions better than many of her tribemates. Despite not showing considerable strength in challenges, she was seen as more of an asset to the tribe than Imogen Bailey, allowing her to gain a position in the power structure. She entered into a four-person alliance with Fiona Horne, Justin Melvey and Nicolle Dickson to keep the original Moso tribe strong, however Amber was notable for disliking the politics of the game more than her alliance members.

On Day 6, the tribes were switched, and Amber found herself remaining on Moso with allies Fiona and Justin. However, Amber was not a fan of Fiona's bossiness and constant clashes with the rest of the tribe. This combined with Amber's dislike for the politics of the game led to Amber flipping on her alliance after losing the Day 7 Immunity Challenge, blindsiding Fiona and angering Justin. Amber fully expected Justin to remain as her ally, despite the fact that their numbers were now down 2 against 2. Furthermore, voting out Fiona further underscored Amber's weakness compared to the rest of the tribe, losing both the Day 8 Reward Challenge and Day 9 Immunity Challenge in considerable fashion. Justin agreed to join Amber in voting David Oldfield off; however, angered by her previous betrayal and wishing to keep the tribe strong, Justin changed his mind and Amber was voted out on Day 9 in a 3-1 vote.
