Survivor: Game Changers Pre-Game Discussion Thread

I have school today, so I wouldn't be able to post my thoughts today. Perhaps later tonight. One thing though, I am not completely against the simplified tiebreaker mechanism, though it trivializes the once-dreaded rock draw.

Are we going to count The Marooning as a reward challenge? In one of the Sneak Peaks a reward was offered in a similar way to Cambodia.

Yes boo.

I know Jeff called Mana an orange tribe, but are we really going to classify a clearly red tribe as orange?

This has been days overdue, so:

  • I think Andrea has a good shot at winning. She's eye candy, but she's not a seductress, so her flirting wouldn't be as obvious as say Parvati. I'd say mid-late merge
  • I am not feeling Aubry for some reason. I think it's her relationship building is so artificial, hence why she lost to Michele, who makes a living out of relationship building. Pre-merge boot for me.
  • F*CK YOU BRAD CULPEPPER. Sersiously though, Brad is too loud for his own good. He's an eternal pre-merge boot, and by the looks of it, the Nuku tribe appears to be the stronger of the two tribes, so if they ever go to Tribal Council, Brad is dispensable.
  • Ciera also has a slim chance of making the merge mostly because Mana has a lot of subtle players like Varner and Sandra, and people of the same archetype hate their kind.
  • I am up and down with Cirie. I agree with Rob and Nicole about Cirie being more confrontational than most people remember, and she's with JT and Ozzy, and both may be wanting to get back at her. But hey, she's still Cirie. She's outgrown her "the woman off the couch" brand and became a bonafide threat. Early merge, I think.
  • Debbie needs to get over herself and actually play (too bad we'll no longer see her multiple jobs in her chyrons as we'll only see her previous season instead), not talk about her life stories. I do believe though she's like Coach 1.0 but can back it up, but as well as she thinks she could. Pre-merge for me.
  • Hali[na Bonham Carter] and Sierra are both cut from the same cloth, entering this season without any legacies under their belts, thus entering the game with an unfair advantage. I can see both of them making it to the merge,
  • JT I believe will enter this season with a chip on his shoulder. A bruised ego. He won Tocantins flawlessly, demolishing Stephen with a 7-0 vote. He came in Heroes vs Villains and embarrassed himself by passing his idol to Russell. His legacy was almost irredeemably tarnished. If he can just bring back his charm and not be like Colby in HvV, he can go far again. Again, Nuku seems to be the stronger of the two tribes, so he could possibly not see himself at tribal often. Early merge for me.
  • I love Varner. He's entertaining, and he's a great persuader. He's an old schooler who caught up to speed very quickly. Same as Cambodia, I think he can casually plant seeds in people to do what he wants. I beg to the Survivor gods to let him pass the merge this time.
  • Malcolm becomes increasingly arrogant every time he plays. I don't get it. Anyone who claims they are so above the game gets their comeuppance FAST. Merge boot.
  • TBH, Michaela is more of a question mark to me than Sierra and Hali combined. She came out there too strong and she got her ass handed to her in that one time Ikabula went to Tribal Council. At least with Sierra and Hali, they are expected to be quiet and subtle like they were last time, but with Michaela? Will she be aggressive? Be sweet? She needs to figure it out early or have a worse finish than 14th.
  • Ozzy is an arrogant sociopath who still doesn't get it. He's been out there four times, and he should know by now that winning Survivor is more than just being helpful at camp and in challenges.
  • QUEEN SANDRA <3 I can see her becoming first boot, but if she does make it far, I hope she wipes the floor with Tony like she did with Fairplay and Russell. In this BIGMOVEZ™ era of Survivor, UTR players are easily caught, so she needs more than stealth to win a third time (sadly, I believe she can't win a third time because I believe the 19 other players have common sense to not underestimate her like Russell did).
  • Tai makes moves but he does not look at the bigger picture (remember when he refused to build the superidol for Scot?). He also can't articulate his thoughts well, so I am on the fence with him.
  • Tony's game is electric. You can't go past Tony and ignore him. If there's a candidate for another two-time winner, it's him.
  • Troyzan is a middle-aged douchebag, like an older Malcolm. He was a bad sport after being tricked by the Salani girls to turn against his fellow guys. I can see him as more humbled this time however.
  • Zeke is the only person remotely liked last season. He had a strong character arc, and he was a gamer: an anomaly since Millennials vs Gen X was Cambodia all over again (i.e. all game, but barely any character development), but with new players.

P.S. Everything I said here were only from the top of my head.

What about Caleb? You didn't mention him.

Oh him. I forgot him lol

He's not doing it for me. I guess the first step for him is drink more water.

P.S. Almost dying for salt and pepper is surely game-changing.

I can't blame him for forgetting Caleb. He lasted less time on Survivor than it takes me to remember to do laundry.

I lost respect for Caleb; in the pre-game interviews, he said Sandra and Tony were not Game Changers. When I watched that interview, I said "Oh, they aren't, but you ARE a Game Changer?"; I regret being excited for his return. I originally had Brad as being the one with no chance of winning, but it's now Caleb who has no chance of winning.

And Sarah?

Call me crazy, but I would contest about tomorrow's premiere being marketed as the 500th episode. Being the fact checker that I am, I did the math, and unfortunately, unless CBS reveals where did they base their count from, I'll believe that their "500th episode" is nothing but a hoax/lousy marketing strategy.

There is a memorabilia flag sold some years ago that says "300 episodes, 20 seasons..." (https://www.ebth.com/items/3253981-survivor-300-episodes-memorabilia-flag). I used this as reference to make the episode count found in Survivor Wiki's episode pages (the one inside the parentheses). I did the math, and the count holds true up until the Nicaragua finale which happens to be exactly episode #300 (the count includes recap episodes, but excludes reunion shows and the America's Tribal Council). Double episodes (two-part episodes aired on the same week, some of them have different titles btw) were considered as separate episodes (even if I merge them as one, they still won't be able to reach 500). Using these rules, I continued to count past Nicaragua until I reach the Millennials vs Gen X finale (each season after Nicaragua has 14 episodes, except SoPa, which has 15 since it was the last season with a recap episode). The count only reached 470.

And even if we include reunion shows as full-time episodes, tonight's premiere being the 500th episode would still be a stretch, because of their weird way of counting the double episodes. I still don't know why they gave a single title to the double eps. from Gabon, Cagayan and MvGX, and two different titles to the ones from SJdS, Worlds Apart and Cambodia. The strangest thing is that on CBS's website, the two parts of "Million Dollar Gamble" are listed separately as episodes 10 and 11. So according to their own website, the 500th episode is the MvGX reunion, and tonight is episode 501...
